I Wrote This Blog for You

It's a common question: "Did you write that about me?"
Of course, the response is, "No."
But, perhaps, it was written for you.
There's a big difference.

We can be talked about.
In good ways and in bad ways.
But it's always gossip.
There's not much use in aboutism.

We cannot be talked for.
But something can be for you.
For is given with the intention of use.
It is utilitarian.

I do not write about you or me.
I write about education.
The way I see it, education is not about you or me.
It is about those we serve.

The only one I really write for is me.
Writing is a way for me to reflect.
Writing is a way for me to express.
Writing is a way for me to engage.

We ask our students to raise their hands and engage.
Are we willing to do so ourselves?
What holds us back?
Are we afraid of saying the wrong thing?
Are we afraid of offending others?

If you take the time to read this, I am honored.
Honored that you give me a small portion of the most precious commodity: time.
Honored that you are willing to call on me when my hand is raised.
Honored that you are willing to listen.

It is not my intention to offend.
However, I know how difficult it is to please everyone.
Some things will rub people the wrong way.
It might make you uncomfortable.

Perhaps that uncomfortable feeling is a good thing.
It means that something is striking a chord.
And within that dissonance is harmony.

I wrote this blog for you.
