Hats
Have you ever stood in front of the mirror and tried on different hats?
With each hat, you take on a different persona.
Some people are deeply attached to their hats, like the hat is their identity.
The sports fanatic.
The cowboy.
The derby queen.
Take away the hat and their identity is all but lost.
So, what does all of this have to do with teaching?
Teachers are the ultimate hat-wearers.
We wear dozens of hats throughout the day.
Sometimes, we wear multiple hats at the same time.
But which hat truly identifies you?
Maybe none of them identify you at all.
Maybe you've gotten so caught up in all of the hat wearing that you're not really sure who you are.
Stop.
Put the hats down.
There's no way you can wear all of them at the same time.
Besides, you look ridiculous.
Instead, try putting on a hat that uniquely fits you.
It may not be the most glamorous.
It most certainly won't be like anyone else's.
But it will turn heads.
Some might look in disgust.
But others will wonder where to get such a wonderful hat.
But they can't. They have to make their own.
Be true to yourself. Go teach!
