Predicting When We'll Die
Google is working on AI that can predict when we'll die,
It sounds scary and morbid, right. What is the purpose.
These predictive technologies have the potential to greatly improve current healthcare systems.
If a computer could predict how much longer you have to live with 95% accuracy, would you want to know the results?
The Tikker watch is a wristwatch that calculates your life expectancy and counts down the time that you have left to live. Would you do things differently if your life literally ticked away before your eyes?
I have been thinking a lot about the finitude of life lately.
We are all on borrowed time.
What we choose to do with that time truly matters.
Do we sit and complain about the system?
Are we miserable at our job?
Life is way too short for that.
Teachers:
Understand that your job is so much more than just a job.
It is so much more than tenure. Than a paycheck. Than making it to retirement.
You have the opportunity to change the trajectory of someone's life.
A life that, like yours, is finite.
What we choose to do today matters more than we realize.
Our actions and attitudes towards our students matter.
Don't let the moment go to waste.
When the clock runs out,
What will you be proudest of?
The homework you assigned?
The tests you gave?
I believe that our job is much more than that.
Our job is to model curiosity and wonder.
To show how to engage with this marvelous world around us.
To provide opportunities to explore interests.
To help children find their purpose in this world.
Yes, I am very aware that my time is ticking down. I will make every second count.
